Support & FAQs

We have a support page as well.

Have a question about cabling? Check out our Frequently Asked Questions document that cover these topics:

Q: What type of wire or cable can I use with Kenrik “UTP” equipment?

Q: Can I run my video signals within a UTP bundle that carries other power, data or telecommunication traffic?

Q: Can I run my UTP cables within close proximity to “noise-generating” areas such as power generators, power lines, fluorescent lighting or RF antennas?

Q: Can I run video in both directions within the same UTP wiring?

Q: Can I send up-the-coax controls over UTP with Kenrik equipment?

Q: What type of wire or cable can I use with Kenrik “UTP” equipment?

  1. Kenrik UTP equipment is currently optimized for outstanding performance with CAT-5 and CAT-5e cable runs up to 3000 feet.

Q: Can I run my video signals within a UTP bundle that carries power, data or telecommunication traffic?

  1. Yes. One of the advantages of UTP CCTV is that the wiring for video can reside along with telephone system wiring.  However, be sure to use “dry copperirs. There should be no dial-tone, 48 volts, loading coils, bridge-taps or switching on the chosen pairs.  For the highest image quality, it is best to minimize the amount of other signaling that is carried in a bundle.

Q: Can I run my UTP cables within close proximity to “noise-generating” areas such as power generators, power fluorescent lighting or RF antennas?

  1. In general, yes. Kenrik UTP equipment is designed to have a great deal of rejection of such interference sources when used with recommended cables.  Of course, all equipment has interference rejection limits, and wherever practical, it is best to route cables away from such sources.  For reasons of safety and code requirements, never install video carrying cables in conduits carrying high voltage cabling.

Q: Can I run video in both directions within the same UTP wiring?

  1. Yes.  Running video in opposite directions in the same CAT-5 cable will perform just as well as running multiple video signals in one direction.  With the high Common Mode Interference Rejection that Kenrik equipment exhibits, signal crosstalk from one video signal pair to another is determined almost entirely by the specifications of the CAT-5 cable.

Q: Can I send up-the-coax controls over UTP with Kenrik equipment?

  1. A. Yes, when using Kenrik passive transceivers (not active receiver equipment). Control signals can be sent in the same CAT-5 cable as video signals.  The reliable range for control signals and good quality video is up to 750 feet.
